Everton are ready to submit an official offer for Juventus ace Merih Demiral
Everton are poised to submit an official offer to sign Juventus defender Merih Demiral, report CalcioMercato.
The 23-year-old has previously been rumoured as a potential signing in a swap deal for Moise Kean [CalcioMercato].
But Calciomercato suggest an offer between €25-€30million [£21.7-£26million] is coming from Everton, but it is believed Juventus have set an asking price higher than that.
However, with the Italian’s in a “hurry” to sell, the report claims an agreement is not impossible between the two clubs.
Big statement
Adding Demiral in the summer would be a sign that we mean business.
Recent high profile signings like James Rodriguez and Allan have helped to elevate us to the next level.
Joshua King, by contrast, has made almost no impact since his arrival.
It is clear what type of players we need, and Demiral, who has experience winning Serie A and playing in the Champions League, would be a great addition.
His career stats show he could be an upgrade on our current centre-back options, as he has achieved 1.4 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game, per WhoScored.
Critically, he has also managed 87% pass accuracy, and that means he would potentially be a good fit in between Michael Keane and Lucas Digne.
And with a reported [CalcioMercato] wage of €1.8million per year [£30,000 a week], he may be a good long-term investment.
The only reason we oppose such a transfer is due to our strength in depth at the back.
Mason Holgate has performed well this season, as has Yerry Mina at times, and with Ben Godfrey coming through we would rather other areas of the squad are addressed first.
