Everton drop Aarons interest but like Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey

Everton are keen on Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey but have dropped their interest in Max Aarons according to journalist Phil Kirkbride.

Kirkbride was conducting a Q&A with fans for the Liverpool Echo when he revealed the Toffees are no longer looking at Aarons, who has been heavily linked recently by Fabrizio Romano.

Instead, Everton are fans of Brighton right-back Lamptey, and Kirkbride hinted the club also like Diogo Dalot, who they have bid for in the past.

In response to a fan asking about the Aarons interest in the Q&A, Kirkbride said “You may be disappointed then, I’m afraid.

“The feedback recently was that he [Aarons] doesn’t fit the profile of player Everton are looking at.

“But, it’s very early and the transfer market changes so quickly. People at the club like Tariq Lamptey while Everton have tried to sign Diogo Dalot in the past two summer windows but failed.”

Future star

Missing out on Aarons would be disappointing as he is a young right-back who has greatly impressed in his short career.

His potential suggests he could be our right-back for years to come, but Lamptey also fits the same profile.

Lamptey burst onto the scene with Brighton last season and it has not taken him long to be linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Bayern Munich [Daily Mail].

The Athletic spoke to those who have nurtured the 20-year-old throughout his career, and one former teacher was in awe of Lamptey, describing him as “unbelievably quick”.

And that pace allows him to bomb up and down the right flank, with the youngster excelling in attack and defence.

A return of 1.9 dribbles per game last term and 1.2 dribbles this time around is very impressive, particularly as he is playing in a struggling Brighton side [WhoScored].

Lamptey also has 1.5 tackles and 1.7 interceptions per game [WhoScored], and is only likely to get better learning from Carlo Ancelotti and Seamus Coleman.

We are very excited about the prospect of him joining because of that, and hope the club makes good on their interest.
