Everton want Gordon to be important squad member with Bernard exit likely
Bernard is likely to exit Everton in the summer transfer window and Anthony Gordon is being lined up as a replacement, according to The Athletic.
Gordon, 20, is currently on loan at Preston and although it hasn’t been a glamourous spell at Deepdale, Marcel Brands is said to be “impressed” by the youngster’s attitude after regular visits to the Championship clubs.
It is understood that Bernard, 28, could move on ahead of next season and that would open up a space on the left-hand side of Carlo Ancelotti’s attack.
Gordon has failed to directly contribute to any goals in his 11 appearances at Preston since joining them on loan on February 1 but is still being primed for a first-team role at Goodison Park next season.
Bye-bye Bernard
It wouldn’t shock us at all if Bernard was to move on in the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian has unfortunately failed to hit the heights that were expected of him at Goodison and the fact that he’s made just nine Premier League appearances this season suggests he’s bound to be moved on.
Bernard shouldn’t find it tough to find a new club either. Ex-England international Danny Mills told Football Insider earlier this season the ex-Shakhtar ace is a “quality player”.
We wish him the best if he does move on but looking towards the future – Gordon is just that.
He’ll probably be disappointed with life at Preston so far with the Deepdale club struggling in the Championship until lately.
They’ve won their last three league games with Gordon as an unused substitute but won just one of the 11 games he played in beforehand.
That’ll be a kick in the teeth for the young academy graduate but if Brands is right to be impressed by his attitude, we doubt it will affect him much.
