Everton want to sign RB Leipzig striker Hee-Chan Hwang
Everton are keen on signing RB Leipzig forward Hee-Chan Hwang, according to Sport1.
The Toffees were reportedly interested in the South Korean in January, but Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann vetoed any potential exit.
But after one league start since joining from RB Salzburg last summer, Everton could land the 25-year-old for €15million [£13million].
Sport1 suggest that negotiations are also progressing and claim Hwang is unhappy at Leipzig, so a Premier League switch could be on the cards, with West Ham also believed to be interested.
Plenty to offer
Hwang excelled in Austria alongside players like Erling Haaland, and he contributed 45 goals and 29 assists in 126 games for Salzburg.
Peter Zeidler, his former manager, is a big fan, and he said of Hwang [Bundesliga.com], “He’s exceptional, has a brutal dynamism. I’ve rarely seen anything like it.”
It is little surprise Nagelsmann was happy to sign him in 2020, but we are surprised that things have not worked out.
For example, Nagelsmann applauded Hwang’s ability to create chances and play with his back to goal [Bundesliga.com].
He described the forward as a “handful” who can “hurt the opposition with his pace”, and that suggests he could be well suited to the Premier League.
One of Everton’s main strengths is the pace of our attack with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison both capable of stretching teams.
It seems Hwang would be able to do the same and since he can play in any attacking position, including on the wing – according to RB Leipzig director of football Markus Krösche – he could be a very useful option for Carlo Ancelotti.
