Kevin Campbell admits consistency concern of Everton forward line

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has slammed Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison for their glaring inconsistency ahead of the clash against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Toffees will be looking for their second successive Premier League win against the Villans, having beaten Arsenal at the Emirates last week.

However, it took an unforced own goal for Everton to score against the Gunners, with neither Calvert-Lewin or Richarlison finding a goalscoring opportunity.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell explained that the inconsistent nature of Everton’s forward line really concerns him in the all-important season run-in.

Campbell said: “It’s the top end of the pitch where I really worry.

“Calvert-Lewin obviously came back [against Arsenal] and looked a little bit rusty at times. Richarlison could be the match winner at times, he did okay for the goal, but at the end of the day we know it was a howler.

“They just don’t create enough.

“I think Richarlison scored plenty of goals last season and he’s scored goals this season too, but I just think Everton blow hot and cold at the wrong times.”

As the race for the European places continues to heat up, Everton’s forwards will face pressure to perform as a win against Aston Villa could propel them right into the mix.

With games against Manchester City and West Ham to come, the Blues have some tough fixtures remaining and they’ll need to bank as many points as possible before facing those fixtures.

Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison both need to dig deep, especially if they want to play European football next season.
