Daniel Pinder likens Sasa Kalajdzic to Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Bundesliga expert Daniel Pinder has compared Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic with Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Kalajdzic who stands at 6ft 7in is a reported Everton target. The Toffees are exploring the possibility of signing a striker this summer and the Bundesliga front man is known to be one of the names on their list.
The 23-year-old has been in sublime form this season, scoring 14 and assisting five in 30 league games. [Transfermarkt]
He’s also been linked with West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur – both of whom are fighting for a top-six finish with Everton.
Speaking about the player’s proposed move to Everton, Pinder, who is the editor at Get German Football News, told Football FanCast, “I think they’re [Calvert-Lewin] quite similar in terms of goal threat, but Kalajdzic can drop deep and play as a central attacking midfielder or as a false nine, so he can offer a lot to Everton.”
DCL 2.0?
While we would love another striker like DCL at the club, if the Englishman is set to stay, which seems the likeliest outcome as of now, despite the Manchester United links, we shouldn’t pursue someone who is like-for-like.
Calvert-Lewin, who has been dubbed as “sensational” [BT] by former Toffees man Tony Cottee, has set the bar very high for any striker that walks through the door at Goodison Park
The Stuttgart striker may offer that little bit more off the ball, but he could disrupt the balance of the team by occupying James Rodriguez’s position if he plays just off Calvert-Lewin.
We’ve seen players coming from foreign leagues, especially the Bundesliga, and struggling to make a big impact in the Premier League before leaving for pastures abroad.
Kalajdzic may look like a promising name on paper, but with Richarlison already in the side, we’re sorted in terms of our attacking threat.
There have been links with Danny Ings as well, and if Carlo Ancelotti is planning on signing a striker regardless of the outgoings, he would be a better signing.
He’s Premier League proven, has performed against the big sides despite working under a number of managers at Southampton, and has earned the opportunity to make the step up.
While injuries hampered his first stint on Merseyside, we’re hoping that second time is the charm should we manage to land him in the summer.
