Kevin Campbell believes Bernard will leave Everton this summer

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell believes that Bernard could leave Everton this summer in search of regular football away from Goodison Park.

The Brazilian has struggled for regular game time on Merseyside this season, having started just three times in the Premier League for the Blues.

The 28-year old has fallen behind Alex Iwobi in the pecking order under Carlo Ancelotti, with the Nigeria international struggling for consistent game time himself.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell claimed that Bernard could expect to receive more game time before the end of the season, although he’ll still likely leave the club in the summer.

Campbell said: “I think Bernard might get some game time but I think he might be one of them who goes to try and play regular football.

“He’s a good player who deserves to play regular football and he’s not going to get that at Everton, at the moment or moving forward.

“It’s one of those where I think he’s going to be leaving the club.”

Bernard broke onto the scene at Goodison Park as an exciting talent with plenty of tricks up his sleeve, but his performances eventually began to wane.

Blessed with technical ability and speed, and described by former teammate Leighton Baines as possessing “unbelievable quality“, Bernard rarely makes an impact for Everton anymore, whether he is chosen to start or relied upon as a substitute.

Given that he signed on a free transfer it is expected that his wages are relatively high, so it makes sense that Everton would look to move him on this summer as they seek to free up funds to make further signings who can prove to be more impactful.
