Everton consider move for Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny

Everton could make a move for Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny this summer according to a report from Italy.

The Toffees could find themselves in need of a new shot-stopper to support and challenge Jordan Pickford, with the long-term future of Robin Olsen uncertain.

Carlo Ancelotti has been clear about how he would like to sign the Roma goalkeeper on a permanent basis, however Olsen’s personal ordeal in March has left him concerned about remaining in England.

Now TuttoJuve report that Everton could turn to former Arsenal goalkeeper Szczesny as they look to increase their depth between the sticks.

Everton are said to be prepared to take on Szczesny’s full wages (£112k-a-week – 90Min) however they’d be unwilling to offer more than £8.6million (€10million) in order to land the 31-year old.

Szczesny, who has also emerged as a target for Tottenham, has been a regular for Andrea Pirlo’s side this season, playing 35 times in all competitions, so it’s currently unclear whether Juventus would allow the Poland international to leave Turin for such a low fee.

Potential steal

Everton certainly need to remedy their uncertain goalkeeping situation this summer, and the earlier that they can get to it the better.

With Szczesny playing such a major role for Juventus this season, and indeed every season since he made the switch from Arsenal, it seems unlikely that Juve will allow him to leave for such a low transfer fee.

If Juventus ask for more money and Everton remain resolute in their intention not to pay above their valuation, the Blues could find that they miss out on a great deal, especially if Olsen does decide that he wants to leave Goodison Park for good.

However with Szczesny playing regularly for Juventus it seems hard to imagine that he’d be willing to compete for a place at Goodison Park, and we’d be surprised if Ancelotti looked for someone to replace Pickford as the starting choice.

Szczesny carries a wealth of Premier League and Champions League experience, and at 31-years old he is still at a great age for a goalkeeper, even though it seems as though he’s been around forever.

We’re not quite sure that we can see this happening, but Szczesny would certainly be a valuable squad addition.
