Donnarumma move could boost chances of Everton landing Szczesny

Juventus could seek to sell Everton target Wojciech Szczesny this summer if they decide to pursue AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Poland international has been a regular starter under Andrea Pirlo this season, having made 35 appearances for the Old Lady in all competitions.

TuttoJuve recently reported that Everton were interested in the former Arsenal shot-stopper, with the long-term future of Robin Olsen remaining unclear.

Tuttosport now claim that while Szczesny has no immediate desire to leave Juventus this summer, he could find himself out of the door should Juve focus on Donnarumma.

The highly-rated Milan goalkeeper is out of contract this summer and if he doesn’t commit to a new deal there will be a scramble to land his signature.

Juventus are said to be keen on the Italy international, and they’d be willing to let Szczesny leave in order to free up some funds to spend on the 22-year old.

Tuttosport also claim that both Everton and Chelsea have already made contact with Szczesny in trying to determine whether he would entertain a return to the Premier League.

Doesn’t seem viable

Everton could certainly receive a boost if Szczesny became available this summer, but it would still depend on the price.

Szczesny is a goalkeeper who won’t settle for being second choice wherever he leaves to, and that could cause an issue on Merseyside as it doesn’t seem likely that Carlo Ancelotti will look to replace Jordan Pickford as Everton’s first-choice any time soon.

The Pole would make a remarkable back-up, on indeed if he replaced Pickford he’d be a strong starting shot-stopper too, but that would leave Ancelotti with an unhappy Pickford and more issues to sort out.

Additionally Tuttosport speculate that it would take ‘€20million (£17.3million) or more’ in order for Juventus to sell, which would eat significantly into Everton’s transfer budget for other more priority positions.

Everton need a back-up goalkeeper, that much is true, but with players like Rui Silva available on a free transfer it doesn’t make much sense for the club to spend considerably on a goalkeeper who would want to upset the pecking order at Goodison Park.
