Everton interested in signing Marko Arnautovic
Everton are interested in signing Marko Arnautovic, according to Il Resto del Carlino.
The Italian newspaper reports in their print edition [May 6] that the Toffees could be rivalled by Italian sides Bologna, Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Italian website 1000 Cuori Rossoblu has also shared the original report, which states Crystal Palace and former side West Ham have made an enquiry for the striker’s availability.
Arnautovic, who is valued at £9million by Transfermarkt, has spent the last two years in China playing for Shanghai Port, scoring 20 goals in 38 games.
Striker needed but is he the right fit?
Arnautovic arriving at Goodison Park this summer would be an interesting move, and one that is likely to split the fanbase.
We certainly need a bullish, no-nonsense striker who is capable of bullying defenders and holding the ball up, and Arnautovic would provide that.
He would give the attack a different dimension and clearly has an eye for goal, so could be an option that appeals to Carlo Ancelotti.
However, at 32 Arnautovic now probably lacks the pace we urgently need in attack.
Other than Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin there is no quickness in the way we play, and that has proved costly time and time again, particularly at home.
The pair mentioned need teammates to run beyond them to create space and draw defenders out of position – that is simply not Arnautovic’s style.
He would largely depend on others creating chances for him, much like Calvert-Lewin, and the pair could get in each other’s way.
We feel there are better options out there and Marcel Brands should be aiming to bring in a forward who can benefit Everton long-term.
In other Everton news, the Toffees want to sign an “unstoppable” wantaway midfielder who is available for a cut-price £35million.
