Everton eye Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa

Everton are weighing up a summer move for Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, according to the Mirror.

The report claims Carlo Ancelotti is a “big fan” of the 25-year-old with the belief that he could add some “dynamism and steel” to the Blues midfield, an area the Italian tactician is keen to improve.

Anguissa is expected to be a target for a host of clubs if and when Fulham are relegated, which could be soon with the Cottagers nine points away from safety with four games remaining.

Anguissa has been an impressive performer this season despite playing in the struggling London side, though he has started four of their last eight games on the substitutes bench.

He does, however, have three Premier League assists to his name during the 2020/21 campaign after spending last season on loan with La Liga side Villarreal.

European football expert Andy Brassell recently conducted an interview with Anguissa where he said his Spanish loan spell had “transformed the all-action midfielder”. [Guardian]

A tweet from stat gurus Squawka in March also highlighted his unbelievable progress, with Wolves speed merchant Adama Traore the only player who could top his 78 completed take-ons at the time.

Bar set too low?

Anguissa had a great start to the campaign for Fulham but he seems to have tailed off somewhat.

That’s not to disregard him completely as his current club have been up against it all season and the lack of confidence in that side has surely affected them all.

But the Cameroon international turns 26 in November so he should be in or starting to enter his prime years as a midfielder.

Can he really kick on and fulfil his promise at Everton?

We’d like the club to set our standards a bit higher and either make a blockbuster midfield signing, or go for a slightly younger option who can grow under Ancelotti.

Given his tally of just two league goals in the past six seasons, Anguissa certainly isn’t bringing goals to the party.

Neither is he a formidable guardian of the defence.

His abilities seem to be more in possession of the ball, with the ability to glide past players, but we have Abdoulaye Doucoure who can performer a similar function, albeit with a bit less grace than Anguissa.

We’re not completely sold on signing a player who is set for his second relegation in three seasons.
