Windass believes Everton can land Aguero with certain guarantees

Former Premier League forward Dean Windass believes that Carlo Ancelotti could tempt Sergio Aguero into signing for Everton this summer.

The Manchester City star is set to leave the Etihad when his contract expires this summer, leading a host of clubs across the continent to register their interest.

Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Barcelona were leading the race for the Argentine forward, with Everton and Chelsea named as other interested clubs.

EvertonSpeaking to This Is Futbol, Windass explained that Ancelotti could have enough pull to convince Aguero to join Everton, though he’d need certain guarantees.

Windass said: “He [Aguero] would sign for Ancelotti.

“But teams now play one up top, or are they going to play Calvert Lewin and Aguero? He’s not going to play second-fiddle to anybody.

“He’s at the latter stages and wants to play. The only way that he will sign for Everton, is if Ancelotti says he’s going to play him with Calvert-Lewin. Everton fans would say, ‘wow, what a signing!’”

Can’t see it

Aguero has been left frustrated at the Etihad this season with bouts of illness and injury preventing him from playing as regularly as he would have liked.

The Argentine has been a vital player for Manchester City over the years however he has only played a bit-part role this season, and perhaps Windass believes that Everton could tempt him through the promise of regular minutes.

However, the Toffees simply cannot compete with the other clubs who want to sign the forward this summer.

Everton cannot even guarantee European football next season, let alone Champions League football, and the club also aren’t in a position to pay Aguero’s wages.

As one of the best strikers in world football on his day, there are few clubs that wouldn’t take Aguero, despite his age and form this season. With the forward available for free this summer Everton would be fortunate to receive a second look from the Argentina international.

In the future, maybe if the club continue to progress, they can target players of Aguero’s calibre. Right now though we don’t see there being any chance.
