Everton could be most likely destination for Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny

Juventus are actively looking to sell goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny this summer according to a new report from Italy, with Everton named as his most likely destination.

The Toffees were first linked with an interest in the Poland international by TuttoJuve last week, with Szczesny said to be available potentially as Juventus eye Milan shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

However La Gazzetta dello Sport have now confirmed that Juve are keen to shift the former Arsenal goalkeeper, listing Everton as his most likely destination.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus want to sell Szczesny in order to improve the shape of their financial situation before the end of the fiscal year in Italy.

The report explains that the main issue with selling Szczesny thought comes down to the lack of ‘big’ European clubs interested in signing a goalkeeper who would want regular football.

La Gazzetta claim that Szczesny feels he has more to give in the Premier League, and with none of the top clubs keen on signing a ‘keeper it could put Everton at the front of the line.

Furthermore the report claims that Juventus still value Szczesny’s ability highly, however after a disappointing year for the club they need someone who can pull off “superhero numbers”, meaning the club must find someone better than they currently have.

Interesting development

Any move for Szczesny this summer would ultimately come down to what Everton would want from the goalkeeper next season.

If they want someone who can challenge and compete with Jordan Pickford, Szczesny isn’t likely to be the man they sign, with the Pole unlikely to consider a position on the bench after playing so frequently for one of Europe’s elite.

However if Everton want someone to replace Pickford, which we don’t see as being very likely, then Szczesny could be a shrewd piece of business if they can land him for the right price.

Carlo Ancelotti is attempting to build a team worthy of breaking into the top four at Goodison Park and Szczesny would bring desired quality and experience to the senior group, but it would likely mean that Pickford would need to leave the club.

We can’t see him playing second fiddle after being first choice for so long, and we can’t see Everton looking to sell him any time soon.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the long run, but one thing is for certain; if Robin Olsen leaves, Everton will need a goalkeeper, and we’re interested to find out who that might be.
