Michael Ball believes Bale would deliver ‘instant success’ at Everton
Former Everton defender Michael Ball believes Gareth Bale would deliver “instant success” at Goodison Park if Carlo Ancelotti could convince him to sign.
Journalist Eduardo Inda (via Diario Madridista) covered Everton’s interest in Bale earlier this week, with Ancelotti said to have asked the club to bring the Wales international to Merseyside.
Currently on a season-long loan with Tottenham, Bale isn’t likely to extend his stay in North London and he isn’t wanted by Real Madrid either, who would rather let him leave to free up space on their wage bill.
Ancelotti is said to be interested in bringing the 31-year old to Goodison Park on a free transfer, and Ball believes that he would immediately improve the Blues should he decide to join the club.
Speaking to Football FanCast, Ball said: “I think the Everton fans would like to see that happening. I think Carlo would like to see that happening.
“Carlo wants players to make an impact straight away, he wants players to push for Europe, challenge that top four and start making a bit of a noise.
“Carlo wants instant success; Gareth has obviously got that in abundance. If he comes to the football club, he will raise the level of the players around him.”
Short-term solution
Gareth Bale has been in fine form for Tottenham in recent weeks, and while he might improve Everton in the short-term he doesn’t represent a wise long-term investment.
Recently labelled an ‘outstanding‘ player by Tottenham’s interim boss Ryan Mason, Bale is clearly a capable player with bags of ability, however at almost 32-years old he isn’t someone that Everton should consider recruiting.
Though Ancelotti wants to avoid paying a transfer fee he would still need to pay Bale’s hefty wages, not to mention the fact that the lack of a transfer fee would surely see Bale’s team demand a healthy signing on bonus.
Considering his age and the cost of bringing him to Goodison Park, Bale wouldn’t be worth the expenditure in the long run, and as Everton continue to grow and improve they must keep a sharp focus on their long-term goals.
Every signing should improve the current squad but they should also improve the club’s long-term prospects, and Bale simply doesn’t do that.
