Everton want to sign Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret

Everton are interested in signing Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, according to Italian outlet Udinese Blog.

The site, owned by il Friuli, which has 16,000 followers on Facebook, suggest the Italian’s future is uncertain currently.

And the Toffees are credited with interest in Meret, along with Inter Milan and Roma.

Meret has fallen out of favour under Gennaro Gattuso and has played just 21 games this season, despite signing for Napoli for €35million [£30million] in 2018 [Football Italia], when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of the Serie A club.

At first this may appear to be a bit of a strange move as strengthening the goalkeeping department is not a pressing concern.

Robin Olsen could depart in the summer though and that opens up a space in the squad for Meret.

Napoli spent big money on the 24-year-old so he is clearly highly rated, and since he is still very young he could improve significantly.

Ancelotti seems to like him a lot too, given he has already signed Meret once in his career before.

He could be a good addition as he would push Pickford for a start and that could get the best out of the England goalkeeper.

Meret’s agent has described his client as an “extraordinary guy” with “immense talent”, so he could be good to have around the squad.

So although Meret could take a hefty chunk out of the budget, we back Marcel Brands to land yet another gem from Napoli, following on from Allan’s arrival last summer.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have made contact with the agent of a winger with 25 direct goal involvements.
