Norwich City eye free transfer move for Everton forward King

Norwich City are interested in signing Everton forward Josh King on a free transfer this summer, according to transfer expert Pete O’Rourke.

The Norway international only joined the Toffees in February, ending a five-and-a-half year spell with Bournemouth in order to move to Merseyside.

Since arriving at Goodison Park however King has yet to make a start for the Blues, with his lack of game time driving speculation that he could leave the club in the summer.

King only signed for Everton on a short-term deal, meaning he is free to negotiate with interested parties ahead of the summer transfer window.

Now O’Rourke reports that Norwich, who recently secured promotion back to the Premier League, are keen on adding the 29-year old to their squad.

King scored 48 goals in the Premier League for Bournemouth during his time for the Cherries and could be seen as a valuable asset for a club returning to the top flight.

Inevitable exit

Josh King’s signing was initially seen to be quite the coup in the winter transfer window, however Everton would have hoped to have seen more from the Norwegian forward.

Admittedly Carlo Ancelotti has made it difficult for King to impress this season, only handing him game time in the way of short cameo appearances, always as a second half substitute.

Because of this, King’s departure this summer has felt inevitable for some time, with the forward having not offered enough for Everton to warrant handing him an extended contract.

Everton are already short on offensive options with Dominic Calvert-Lewin essentially operating as the club’s only striker, and should King leave this summer it will mean more work for Ancelotti and Marcel Brands in the transfer market.

Moise Kean appears destined to leave the club when the window opens, while Cenk Tosun is currently nursing a long-term injury.

Keeping King would appear to be in the club’s best interests, but there is only so many times that the 29-year old will settle for warming the bench.
