Everton are interested in signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bayern Munich

Everton are still interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Joshua Zirkzee, according to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees were linked with a move for the 19-year-old in January [talkSPORT] but he opted to join Parma on loan instead.

Zirkzee is now set to return to the German club and the Toffees are believed to still be keen on the Dutchman.

Romano offered an update via Twitter, saying, “Joshua Zirkzee is 100% coming back to FC Bayern after his loan spell at Parma.

“He doesn’t need any surgery after his injury and he’s almost ready for the pre-season, then Bayern will decide his future.

“Everton are interested in signing Zirkzee since last January.”

Loan deal?

Zirkzee made his Bayern Munich debut at 18 so he seems to be a very highly-rated prospect.

That means the club is perhaps unwilling to let him leave permanently, but could be interested in a loan move, especially given Carlo Ancelotti’s links to the club.

The striker is a bit of an unknown quantity but this deal could tick a lot of boxes for Marcel Brands and the club.

Firstly, he could would be a suitable backup option to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and is unlikely to protest at a lack of game time given his age.

He is a similar build to our no.9 so could learn from Calvert-Lewin and get onto the end of crosses from the likes of Lucas Digne and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

However, he does bear similarities with failed signing Moise Kean.

Like the Italian, Zirkzee impressed initially at one of Europe’s big clubs, scoring four goals in nine league games for Bayern in 2019/20.

He did not fair well outside of his comfort zone at Parma though, failing to score in four appearances.

There is a slight worry he could struggle to adapt to the Premier League like Kean, and that is another reason why we think Everton may be interested in a loan deal.

In other Everton news, the Toffees want to sign an “outstanding” player who wants exit, with his club also ready to sell for £13.7m.
