Kevin Campbell wants Everton to find ‘quality’ replacement for Coleman

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has called on Everton to find a “quality player” to replace Seamus Coleman at right-back ahead of next season.

The Athletic reported earlier this year that a right-back is high up on the club’s agenda this summer, with the Blues seeking to sign a successor to the Irishman.

Jonjoe Kenny doesn’t look to have a long-term future with the Toffees while Mason Holgate has failed to impress as a full-back.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell explained that Everton must find the right player to succeed Coleman on the right side of the club’s defence.

When asked where the club need to strengthen in the transfer window, Campbell said: “Right-back. I know Seamus Coleman is still going strong but I still think right-back is a place where they need a quality, quality player to start.

“Coleman should now be the back-up, there’s going to be times where’s he’s got to play, but you need younger legs in there.

Everton

Everton have been fairly solid defensive this season though Ancelotti will know where he must strengthen going forward.

Coleman still has plenty to give to the club but the Blues must keep one eye on the future, and signing a new right-back would allow them to do that.

The Athletic reported that Norwich defender Max Aarons was high up on the club’s list of potential targets but ultimately it isn’t clear who the Toffees could focus their efforts on just yet.
