Everton put Bernard back up for sale – Sky Sports
Everton will place Bernard back on the transfer list this summer after his failed January exit, according to Sky Sports journalist Ben Grounds.
Bernard, 28, arrived on Merseyside in 2018 after the expiry of his Shakhtar Donetsk contract, linking up with new Blues boss Marco Silva.
The Brazilian attacker started 25 Premier League games in his first season but the last two have seen a combined tally of just 18 as he has fallen further down the pecking order.
He was close to leaving mid-way through this season, as Grounds explains, but he will get the chance again once the transfer window opens.
“Bernard will be for sale again this summer having seen a January move to Al-Nasri collapse,” Grounds reported.
The diminutive playmaker has just over a year left on his Blues deal that expires in June 2022.
Time to cut ties
Bernard’s failed to catch fire at Everton and it’s best for both parties to move on and look elsewhere.
He has shown flashes of brilliance but unfortunately, those moments have been few and far between.
The Brazilian has scored just three goals this season, though one of them was a 97th-minute winner in a thrilling 5-4 extra-time victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16 of the FA Cup.
But despite the lack of attacking talents in the Blues squad Carlo Ancelotti has repeatedly shied away from handing him a chance, often preferring Alex Iwobi or packing more defenders into the side.
Bernard has arguably deserved more chances than he has had under the Italian tactician but the fact remains that he is not of the standard required to take us to the next level, and we should cash in while we have the chance.
That would ensure profit given he arrived on a free transfer in 2018, and it would also free up valuable wages to spend elsewhere.
