Everton lead summer chase for former Barnsley loanee Dike

Everton and Wolves are reportedly the frontrunners for the signature of Orlando City and former Barnsley loanee Daryl Dike this summer.

The 20-year old striker moved to Oakwell on loan in February and immediately caught the eye of many Premier League clubs, scoring nine times in the Championship for Barnsley.

TeamTalk credited Everton with interest in Dike’s signature back in March and the same outlet now claim that the Blues front the chase for the United States international.

Barnsley do possess an option to sign Dike this summer for £18million, although after failing to achieve promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs the Tykes won’t likely be able to afford the forward.

TeamTalk also claim that Dike isn’t likely to return to the MLS this summer after seeing his stock rise considerably, with clubs across Europe having had their interest piqued.

Everton are interested in signing another forward this summer to add more competition and depth to the squad and Dike could end up being someone that the club decide to move for.

Solid option

Everton certainly need to find more offensive options this summer, that much is for certain.

Far too much responsibility and pressure was heaped upon Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shoulders last season and now with Josh King seemingly gone and Moise Kean next out of the door, he’s currently set to feel that pressure even more so this coming season.

Dike has been in excellent form for Barnsley but he has yet to be tested at a high level so it remains to be seen whether he has what it takes to succeed at Goodison Park.

Should Orlando City demand a respectable fee then Everton should consider making a move, but only if the price is right.

The Blues have bigger priorities that need addressing this summer and they can’t afford to overspend on someone with very limited experience.

Either way the Toffees do need to find another forward this summer to bolster their offensive line, and there’s no reason why Dike couldn’t be the one to do so.

In other Everton news, this left-footed Toffees ace is on the verge of a major decision as clubs line up to sign him.
