Sky Sports: Everton loanee Ellis Simms rocked Blackpool with injury on Friday

Everton loanee Ellis Simms missed the League One play-off final on Sunday afternoon for Blackpool against Lincoln.

The young striker was influential in the semi-finals against Oxford, and would surely have been guaranteed to start at Wembley.

Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver shared the extent of the injury, that was actually picked up in the final preparations for the game.

Speaking during live coverage of the game, Weaver revealed that it was actually the final kick of Friday’s training for the Tangerines.

“Blackpool without Ellis Simms today, an injury that rocked them on Friday,” he said.

“He injured himself taking a penalty, the final kick of the session.”

Goodman responded, and insisted that Simms will have been sat biting his nails in the stands at Wembley this afternoon.

“It’s heartbreaking really isn’t it, all you can do is watch and pray.”

Heartbreak.

Carlo Ancelotti will have been keeping an eye on Simms recently.

The young striker has really found his feet in the past few months and has proved himself to be a real handful in the final third under Neil Critchley.

With no real backup striker at Goodison Park, a headline-making performance at Wembley could really have seen him stake his claim for a spot on the bench in the Premier League.

Simms will be gutted, especially when Kenny Dougall found the back of the net and the roar of the Blackpool fans surrounded Wembley.

We believe he may have done enough, and despite injury, it may take one more loan move to the Championship before he makes that step to the big time.
