Report: Everton emerge suitors to sign AS Roma attacker Pedro
Everton have reportedly emerged as suitors to sign former Champions League winner and AS Roma attacker Pedro this summer.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Carlo Ancelotti is a long-term admirer of the former Barcelona and Chelsea forward and is exploring all avenues possible to sign him this summer.
Pedro will be reuniting with former manager Jose Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico this summer, but he could be lured away from the Italian capital should Everton come in with a tempting offer.
The 33-year-old still has two years left on his deal, so any potential transfer wouldn’t be as straightforward as one would expect.
However, given his age, he’s unlikely to cost a huge transfer fee. There are still no reports whether or not the player would consider leaving the club as he’s found himself settled in the dressing room and played in 27 league games this past season, scoring five and assisting two more. [WhoScored]
What are we doing
Surely our scouting team should be able to give us a better wide attacker than a player who will turn 34 this July.
Pedro might be a serial winner, with trophies like the Champions League, La Liga and Premier League under his belt, but he is not the same player he was when he won said competitions.
He’s slowed down considerably and even in a league that’s known for its rather defensive and low-tempo games, he still hasn’t been able to perform consistently.
We need someone in or near their prime that can hit the ground running and immediately strengthen our first team.
We’re hoping that someone at the club can talk Ancelotti out of it and put better options on the table for him. It’s not like there is a dearth of attacking players out there, and Pedro is certainly not the solution to our problems.
