Marcus Bent confirms Everton interest in striker Danny Ings
Ex-Everton forward Marcus Bent has shared on good authority that the club are looking at signing Danny Ings from Southampton this summer.
Despite having the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin leading the line for the Toffees, they’re looking to sign another striker this transfer window.
A number of players have been linked with a move to Goodison Park, and Danny Ings has been one who has been mentioned [Sunday Mirror] as of late.
The Southampton forward has impressed despite missing a few games through injury and has a consistent goal-scoring record in the last few seasons.
Despite being 28, he is still subject to transfer speculation, even though manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has said that he hopes to keep the England international at the club. [Evening Standard]
However, that hasn’t stopped Everton from stepping up their interest as Bent has now revealed that people inside the club are looking to bring him to Goodison Park in the coming months.
He told Football FanCast, “They definitely need to bring someone in, they’re talking about Ings. He’s 28.
“He’s not going to be a replacement for years, he’s not going to be at the club for years. He’s doing well at the minute.
“But talking to a couple of people at the club, he’d be a good buy, I wouldn’t say a cheap buy, but he’d be someone who would come in and probably play around DCL and he’d get his number of goals too, I think.”
Would be interesting
If the club are keen on signing Ings, they certainly would have a plan to play him with Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. It could also mean a role change for the Brazilian and maybe a more withdrawn one for James Rodriguez.
That said, we’re certainly looking forward to the Ings signing if it goes ahead. He’s a proven goal scorer and has done it season after season.
This campaign, had he played all the games, he undoubtedly would’ve bettered his Premier League goal-scoring tally of 12.
He’s a player one can rely on to deliver the goods, regardless of how the team is playing. That’s one of the main reasons why Gareth Southgate has him ahead of Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order even though the Everton forward has had an unbelievable campaign.
