Jim White launches passionate Everton defence after Ancelotti quits for Real Madrid
Jim White launched a passionate defence of Everton on talkSPORT on Wednesday after Carlo Ancelotti quit Merseyside to return to Real Madrid.
Everton hired Ancelotti in December 2019 with him agreeing a four-and-a-half-year contract.
Ancelotti’s son Davide spoke to talkSPORT earlier this season, telling White about the long-term project in place at Goodison Park.
However, that project is now ruined thanks to his father returning to Madrid.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT presenter White admitted he’s got a soft spot for Everton and hit out at Davide for going back on his word from that interview in December.
“I think it’s public knowledge – I really like Everton. I’m up there a fair bit” said White, as shown on talkSPORT’s Twitter account on Wednesday.
“I get on well with Farhad [Moshiri], I’ve known Bill Kenwright for many, many years and I just think the Evertonians are really special. They deserve better.
“You mentioned Davide Ancelotti, Carlo’s son. I’m not getting at them here but especially when we were told something like this, when Davide Ancelotti was delighted to speak to us on this show back in December 2020, he told us in no uncertain terms how happy he and his dad were at Everton and with life in Liverpool.
“Davide Ancelotti came over so well that day and I remember the reaction from Evertonians. He got in touch with you and me [about] how thrilled they were.
“Commitment. We want commitment. I love Evertonians because that’s what they want. They take their football and their football club seriously.
“Davide Ancelotti there talking about projects, this is long-term, year-by-year.
“Evertonians listening to that this morning, surely you must feel really let down by what has happened?”
Get into ’em, Jim
We’re angry. Disappointed and angry.
Ancelotti sold the board a lie, he sold the players a lie and he sold us, the fans, a lie.
While we only finished 10th this season in the Premier League, we’d shown that under Ancelotti we’d be able to welcome top players to Goodison Park and there were glimpses that we could finish in the European spots or even challenge for silverware.
Yes, we finished 10th. But the season wasn’t a disaster.
Everton are a work in progress and always will be unless we can get a manager on board who can stick around for more than 18 months.
Ancelotti was supposed to be that man and that lengthy contract suggested he was more than committed to the project back in December 2019.
But now he’s gone back to Real Madrid. The club that fired him a year after he won the Champions League, a club that’s still trying to form the European Super League and a club that is in crisis.
You go there Carlo but we guarantee you won’t last long.
As for us, it’s back to the drawing board.
In other Everton news, the Blues are readying a swoop to hire this ex-Premier League manager.
