Duncan Ferguson wants Everton manager job as Marcel Brands is overwhelmed with enquiries

Former Everton star Duncan Ferguson is interested in becoming the new manager at Goodison Park, according to Daily Mail journalist Dominic King.

Writing on the Daily Mail website, King reports that Ferguson, 49, feels he’s ready for the job after working under Carlo Ancelotti, who quit the Blues on Tuesday to return to Real Madrid.

It is understood that sporting director Marcel Brands has been left overwhelmed by enquiries about the new vacancy at Goodison Park but he will not rush the appointment as he wants to be thorough.

Big Dunc at the wheel?

As much as we love Ferguson, we just don’t see the ex-Scotland manager taking charge of Everton on this occasion.

While he has plenty of coaching experience at Goodison Park and no one really gets the club in the way Big Dunc does, Everton are at a crucial point where they cannot really take risks.

Ancelotti has left a squad that’s full of big-money players with big egos. Would they be happy to play for a rookie manager?

We doubt it.

Nuno Espirito Santo appears to be the favourite at this stage and while he’s not a big name like Ancelotti, he’s someone who’s proven himself in the Premier League and the Europa League with Wolves.

Nuno’s credentials outweigh Ferguson’s in almost every aspect apart from the fact he ‘knows the club’.

But it’s been proven time and time again that just because a manager used to play for a club doesn’t mean he’ll be a good manager for them.

It’s sad but Ferguson might have to walk away from Merseyside and get a manager’s gig elsewhere before he stands a realistic chance of managing Everton.
