Everton appointment on the cards for ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri

Ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is keeping his options open after Carlo Ancelotti quit Everton this week, according to CalcioMercato.

The Italian news website reports Sarri, 62, has been in talks over becoming the new Lazio manager.

It is understood that Lazio want to find an agreement with the Italian manager by the end of Friday otherwise it seems as though they may move onto other targets.

However, CalcioMercato claims Sarri knows there are other options that are available other than Lazio and the Italian outlet suggests a move to Everton could be on the cards.

D-Day for Sarri

Lazio clearly want to make a swift appointment but Sarri knows that there is a bit of a manager merry-go-round taking place at the minute.

Where one door closes, another one seems to be opening – as has been the case with Real Madrid and Everton due to Ancelotti quitting Goodison to return to the Bernabeu.

Sarri is a manager who has been around the block in his career.

In total, the Naples-born manager has taken charge at 20 clubs. Yes, 20.

He started off in the lower reaches of Italian football and worked his way up to Napoli, where he spent three years before a stint at Chelsea in the 2018/19 season that saw him lift the Europa League.

However, Juventus then came calling and hired Sarri in 2019, who was then sacked just over a year later despite winning the Serie A title.

Sarri isn’t someone you can rely on to build a long-term project around.

We were hoping Ancelotti would do that but clearly, the Italian had no real commitment towards the Toffees and jumped on the first big club offer that came his way.

Sarri’s proven he’s a decent manager but we don’t feel as though he’d be right for Everton.
