Fabrizio Romano: Everton target Emerson will cost £21.5m

Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano claims any club looking to sign Everton target Emerson Royal will have to cough up €25m (£21.5m).

In his podcast Here We Go, Romano claimed Barcelona will consider the player’s sale if any club can match their aforementioned valuation.

He said, “Emerson’s price is around €25million. So if an important proposal will arrive, Barcelona will think about Emerson leaving the club this summer.

“But at moment he is part of the team, they are happy with him.”

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Everton have shown a keen interest in signing him as they’re looking to find a backup and eventual long-term replacement for Seamus Coleman this summer.

Interesting prospect

Emerson’s ownership in the past has been worth noting. The Brazilian had been co-owned by Real Betis and Barcelona since 2019.

To acquire his services, the two La Liga sides paid €6m (£5m) each to Atletico Mineiro, per Goal.

Barcelona recently activated their option to take sole ownership and buy Emerson outright for €9m (£8m).

However, as Romano mentioned, they’re still open to the player’s sale, but will be looking to make a slight profit should they decide to part ways with him this summer.

The pacey Brazilian right-back would be a solid option for the Toffees, and could be an equally capable right-back should Coleman be unavailable.

At 22, he’s not just one for the present, but could also be the club’s right-back for the next five seasons, at the very least.

Per StatsBomb data, the player’s attacking prowess sees him compete with the continent’s elite full-backs. By averaging 2.74 touches inside the opposition penalty area per game, he finds himself in the top 10 percent of full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues.

Even defensively he boasts impressive numbers for a full-back. He averages 15.54 pressures, 3.26 clearances and almost 3 interceptions per game – all of which put him the top 20 percent per category.

He’s only shown signs of improvement since his move in 2019 and could reach his true potential if he’s given game time at Goodison Park.

Barcelona may be a bigger club, but if he is to polish skills, he’s got to play for us and shoulder Coleman’s responsibilities at right-back.
