Report: Everton-linked Wilfried Zaha hands in Crystal Palace transfer request

Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha, who has been linked with Everton for a while, has told the Selhurst Park club he wants to leave.

According to The Times, the former Manchester United winger has informed the club of his decision to move on this summer, having been on the cusp of an exit for the past two seasons.

He has reportedly told the representatives at the club he wants his transfer completed before the squad return for their pre-season training.

Per Goal, the Toffees have been linked with him recently and will get him for a lot cheaper than the £100million Palace had quoted two summers ago when Arsenal were also keen.

Don’t need him

It looked like Carlo Ancelotti had certain targets in mind before he decided to leave for the Real Madrid job, and we don’t think Zaha was at the top of his list.

At £120,000-a-week, Zaha’s not the cheapest of wingers out there, and give his age, 28, he’s not a young asset worth investing in who will have a high resale value.

We’ve seen him create a fuss about wanting a move away every season, and it never seems to materalise.

Zaha’s not the same player he was two years ago and has had a rotten time dealing with different injuries.

When fit, he may be Palace’s best player, but if we are to narrow the gap to the top four, the 28-year-old is unlikely to be the one that gets us there.

If Richarlison, James Rodriguez and Dominic-Calvert Lewin stay on, we might not need to sign a first-team attacker urgently.

Our midfield and backline are in desperate need of reinforcements and we need to sort that out first before looking to add to our attacking depth.

Zaha might be a talented player, but we’re afraid he’s lost his chance of moving to Goodison Park. We’d rather sign someone younger, better, and with experience of playing in Europe and performing consistently against the big clubs.

The 28-year-old has been labelled “phenomenal” by Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta [The Daily Express], so he could also be in the mix to move to the Emirates this summer.
