Kevin Campbell: James Rodriguez development won’t go down well at Everton
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that James Rodriguez has no choice but to get himself fit for the new Premier League season after his latest injury blow.
The Everton playmaker has been forced to miss the upcoming COPA America with Colombia, despite jetting off early and missing the final day defeat at Manchester City.
Campbell believes it will be a real personal blow to Rodriguez, who leaving Merseyside early left a real sour taste in the mouth of those around him.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “It will be a real blow to him.
“I think he went back early to try and make sure that he got into the squad, whether he’s got an injury or not, it wasn’t going to go down well.
“Obviously, he’s an Everton player, so he’s going to have to get himself fit for the new season.”
Embarrassing.
This long-standing story just appears to be getting worst and worst.
Rodriguez has given us some fantastic times over the past season, but he hasn’t done it consistently enough at Goodison Park and that has to change.
With Carlo Ancelotti leaving this week to rejoin Real Madrid, it could change things in the mind of the Colombian, who most likely came solely due to that reason.
The fitness of the playmaker has not been anywhere near good enough, and he has to use this COPA America snub as a chance to get back to his 100% best.
Campbell admitted it wasn’t going to go down well when Rodriguez posted that shocking picture online despite the season not being over, and this has just made it even worse.
