Everton are frontrunners to sign Lazio attacker Joaquin Correa
Everton are battling a clutch of European clubs to sign Lazio forward Joaquin Correa this summer, according to Italy24News.
The Italian news outlet claims the Blues, alongside Premier League rivals West Ham, have “asked for information” about the 26-year-old, who is also interesting clubs in Spain.
However, he is expected to move to the Premier League and there has already been an offer of £25.8m from an unnamed club, a proposal that Lazio considers “interesting.
Lazio are keen to make a big sale this summer to finance a summer spending spree for five new players, and Correa is the main candidate with star men like Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto considered to be out of the question.
Correa scored eight goals in 28 Serie A appearances for the Rome giants last season, and he has been capped five times by Argentina, scoring twice.
He also struck a consolation goal for Lazio in a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich in February.
Brands signing?
We’re currently without a manager which leaves us thinking that director of football Brands could be the brains behind this deal, should it come to fruition.
If it had been a player desired purely by Carlo Ancelotti then surely our interest would have subsided for the time being after the Italian’s exit from the club on Tuesday.
Regardless, Correa is a player with strong pedigree and he would undoubtedly add a lot of strength to positions where we are light on options.
He started all 33 games [WhoScored] last season as a striker but that was primarily in a 3-5-2 formation and he was deployed as the mobile forward next to Ciro Immobile, tasked with running down channels to supply the star striker.
Joshua King was brought in during the winter transfer window to assist Dominic Calvert-Lewin but the move was a failure and signing a new forward is an urgent requirement this summer.
