Everton in contact with ex-Juventus player and manager Andrea Pirlo

Everton have been in contact with former Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo as they aim to find a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, according to CalcioMercato.

Juve sacked Pirlo, 42, last week after the ex-Italy midfielder failed to secure a 10th consecutive Serie A title for the Turin-based club.

CalcioMercato claims Pirlo is now in the thoughts of the Toffees and that the choice of a new manager will be made “in the coming days”.

No thanks

Pirlo was a superb player.

He was so good that whenever you talk about players who sit deep in front of the defence, dictating player, you say they’re playing in a ‘Pirlo role’.

The Italian won countless titles in his playing days but it’s fair to say that in his debut season in charge of Juventus, he flopped.

Juve should have won Serie A easily with the players they have at their disposal but they only just managed to qualify for the Championship.

It was an embarrassing season for them and you can understand why Pirlo was sacked despite him winning the Coppa Italia.

Everton cannot take any chances with their next appointment.

Ancelotti is someone who’s pretty much won everything there is in his managerial career yet he only managed to lead the Blues to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League.

It’ll be hard – perhaps impossible – to hire someone with a CV better or even close to Ancelotti’s but Pirlo is so far from that, there’s no way he can be a serious contender.
