Everton interested in PSV right-back Denzel Dumfries

Everton are in the hunt to sign PSV right-back Denzel Dumfries despite their lack of manager, according to Voetbal International.

The Dutch news outlet claims Dumfries, 25, has made no secret of his desire to play at a higher level than the Eredivisie and it would appear Toffees director of football Marcel Brands has his eye on the Netherlands international.

In March, The Athletic reported that Everton want to sign a new right-back ahead of next season as a long-term successor to Seamus Coleman.

Going Dutch

Brands’ links to the Eredivisie and especially PSV are obvious with the fact that he’s Dutch and used to work for the Eindhoven club.

However, there’s surely more to this story than simply the connection Brands has to PSV as it’s obvious Everton need a new right-back this summer.

Dumfries is someone who’s outgrown the Dutch top-flight.

He’s 25-years-old, wears the captain’s armband for PSV and has 18 caps for the Netherlands international team.

This season, the former Sparta Rotterdam right-back scored four goals and supplied nine assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, helping PSV reach the Europa League knock-out stages and finish second in the Eredivisie standings.

Last year, Dumfries was described as an “explosive” right-back by Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder, who also reported that the Dutchman was valued at £13.5million.

It remains to be seen whether that value has changed or not after a strong season at PSV but the Dutchman is set to enter the final two years of his contract there.

Everton could do far worse than Dumfries, an attack-minded full-back who could combine well with the aerial might of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

In other Everton news, Jim White exploded in a passionate rant about the Toffees on talkSPORT.
