Rafa Benitez way down Everton list of manager targets

Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is nowhere near a priority for Everton as they aim to find Carlo Ancelotti’s successor, according to Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards.

Writing on The Telegraph website, Edwards reports that “according to those in the know”, Benitez is way down the Blues’ list of targets and may not be under consideration at all.

The Athletic has reported that the 61-year-old Spaniard is open to talks with the Toffees as he’s currently out of work after leaving Chinese club Dalian Professional in January.

Wrong approach by Moshiri and Kenwright

Ancelotti’s exit on Tuesday came as a massive shock and seemingly left the board totally unprepared to be seeking out yet another new manager to take charge at Goodison Park.

Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright will have their work cut out to hire a manager whose CV comes anywhere near to Ancelotti’s.

But Benitez’s does.

Everton

He’s won La Liga twice with Valencia, he’s won the Champions League and FA Cup with Liverpool, he’s won the Europa League with Chelsea, the Coppa Italia with Napoli and the Championship with Newcastle.

Every time Benitez has managed an English club, he’s won silverware.

Every time Benitez has managed an English club, he’s left them in a better position than when he took over.

The only reason we can think of that would lead to Everton not considering Benitez is simply that he used to manage Liverpool and is seen of an icon on the other side of Stanley Park.

But so what?

If we hire Benitez, who’s that going to annoy more? Everton fans, or Kopites?
