Neville Southall: Duncan Ferguson is only man who can take Everton forward
Neville Southall has backed Everton to appoint Duncan Ferguson to replace the outgoing Carlo Ancelotti this summer.
The Italian left the job at the end of last week, and nearly every single name has already been linked with the role at Goodison Park.
Nuno Espirito Santo still appears to be the main candidate for the Toffees, although things could change very quickly.
Speaking to Sky Sports, as shared by Alan Myers on his personal Twitter account on Friday evening, Southall shoehorned Ferguson into the role.
“Just spoken with Big Nev about the Everton Managers job,” he said.
“Absolutely categoric that Duncan Ferguson should be given the role now, he says nobody will lift the Club like Duncan will.”
Nostalgia.
We are all for passion and know-how on the sideline, but we can’t go back down this road.
After having Ancelotti in charge of the club, we can’t go back to someone such as Ferguson, who would just act as a fill-in until someone accepts the role more long term.
This will be something that some will want after his three-game spell back in 2017, that ended in a huge win over Chelsea, and that draw at Old Trafford.
Despite his love for the club and his pure aggression and passion that could make him an ideal candidate, we are desperate for someone to push us into Europe yet again.
Ancelotti failed, and the next manager may not have that luxury as the Premier League season rapidly approaches in the next couple of months.
