Yannick Bolasie pays touching tribute to Duncan Ferguson ahead of Everton exit
Yannick Bolasie has issued a heartfelt tribute to Duncan Ferguson as the Everton coach bids to become Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.
Ferguson, 49, feels he is ready to take the managerial reigns at Everton following the Italian tactician’s switch to Real Madrid, according to Daily Mail journalist Dominic King.
The Scot has received a glowing reference from outgoing Blues winger Bolasie, who is set to depart Goodison Park when his contract expires at the end of June.
Writing his goodbyes on his personal Twitter profile, the 32-year-old reserved a special mention for Ferguson.
He said: “Also the last thing and person I need to thank is my guy for real! Big Dunc….what a man, what a legend, as real as they come and a top coach.
“You kept it 100 always.”
Player approval
We’re not sure if this is Bolasie actually advocating for Ferguson to get the job or purely a public show of his affection for Ferguson, but it certainly paints the ex-Blues striker in a favourable light.
Ferguson has undeniably played an integral role at the club over the years, first as a player and then as a coach.
He has worked wonders with young players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has credited Ferguson with the big strides he has made in his development which have lead to him becoming a full-fledged England international.
Ferguson obviously feels the time has come for him to take on greater responsibility, but it would be a herculean ask for him to come in and steady the ship before taking us on to great heights.
He’s a novice in the managerial game and it would be a huge risk to consider him for the vacant job.
The players would likely be behind him to begin with, but that surely cannot be enough to land him such a prestigious honour.
Ferguson has all the leadership qualities but does he have the tactical nous to compliment that?
It’s a big question and we’re not sure if he would be able to answer it yet, but whatever happens, he must be retained by the next manager.
