Adrian Durham destroys Danny Murphy over embarrassing Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Adrian Durham has destroyed Danny Murphy over his ludicrous claims on Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin for England on Sunday.
The Toffees talisman won a penalty against Romania, but it was stolen off him by Jordan Henderson who eventually missed in the 1-0 win.
Durham claimed it would have harmed Calvert-Lewin’s confidence, despite Murphy somehow blaming the Everton man rather than Henderson.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Durham fired back at Murphy, and couldn’t believe what he was listening too when it aired live.
“What does he bring if he’s not playing?” he said. “Apparently, it was leadership.
“He basically tried to destroy Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s confidence before a tournament. That was an appalling thing to do.
“I heard Danny Murphy saying it doesn’t really matter too much. He actually defended Henderson for missing the penalty, then had a go at Calvert-Lewin for not going for the rebound, really?”
Embarrassing.
Murphy couldn’t get away with this, and it is usually Durham who steps up and makes his voice heard when something this ludicrous is said.
You could hear the Liverpool agenda scream through his voice when he picked Calvert-Lewin to blame over Henderson, despite his shocking effort.
Going into a major tournament in less than a week, you want your strikers to be brimming with confidence and in goal-scoring form, so this was literally idiotic.
Henderson, a player who has been injured for months, not guaranteed to even bit fit enough to start, and a holding midfielder, is the last player who needs to find the back of the net.
This was some sort of strange power move, and it left Gareth Southgate and half of Merseyside questioning what was going on in the Three Lions camp.
