Everton set to complete signing of Matheus Nunes – report

Everton are set to confirm the signing of Sporting Lisbon star Matheus Nunes, according to CM Journal.

The Portuguese outlet have reported on their website that the Toffees are set to complete a £17million deal for the midfielder.

Nunes played a major role in Sporting’s success last season, finally bringing home their first Portuguese league title in years.

Despite having no manager, Nunes looks set to arrive at Goodison Park.

The Brazilian could be set to follow in the footsteps of his South American partner Allan, who could form a midfield duo next season.

Nunes featured 31 times in the league last season for Sporting, but 19 of those were as a substitute, as he failed to nail down a starting spot.

There were plenty of clubs reportedly interested, but it was Everton who came closest to the asking price, as they look to have won the race.

Nuno Espirito Santo has been a revelation at Forest

Big hints?

This could be the first sign that Nuno Espirito Santo is closer to the vacant manager job than we all think.

Nuno is known for his strong links to Portugal, and bringing in numerous talents from that league – just look at the likes of Pedro Neto.

This screams a signing that he would have had a say in, as we look set to start yet another story at Goodison Park.

Bringing in younger options with experience of success is critical, we have brought in far too many older names who fail to impress in recent years.

Our midfield needs reshaping dramatically, with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Gomes, not two who we should have had to rely on in recent years.

We look set to welcome Nunes to Merseyside, in what could be a shift in the transfer strategy from this summer.
