Duncan Ferguson to remain at Everton if Rafa Benitez becomes manager
Rafa Benitez could be announced as Everton new manager any moment from now, and Duncan Ferguson will be part of his crew.
According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, the former Toffees striker will remain at the club if the Spaniard is appointed.
He took to his Twitter account to share the information on Thursday morning.
The 49-year-old was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s backroom staff as assistant manager, and could be taking up the same role under Benitez.
More experience for Big Dunc
Ferguson has been a key part of the Everton coaching set-up since 2014, working under Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva before taking charge of the team on an interim basis after the Portuguese was sacked in 2019.
Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry claimed that some figures at Goodison Park want him appointed as the next manager [Football Fan Cast], but that is not looking feasible right now.
Nevertheless, that he will remain at the club if Benitez comes in is good for his managerial growth.
Ferguson has learnt under four quality managers already, and is set to pick the brains of another top tactician in the former Real Madrid boss.
Everton owner Farhad Moshiri may not be considering him for the big role right now, but that could be on the cards for the future.
Ferguson could also be keen to test himself in the Championship or Scotland as a manager going forward, and the lessons he has learnt at Rush Moore over the years will definitely come in handy sooner or later in the dugout.
