Everton attacker James Rodriguez has an option to return to Real Madrid
Everton attacking midfielder James Rodriguez could be reunited with manager Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid this summer.
According to veteran Colombian journalist and commentator Javier Hernandez Bonnet, the Toffees man is wanted back at the Santiago Bernabeu, with President Florentino Perez and the Italian boss both keen.
Rodriguez has an option to return to Madrid due to the terms of the contract he signed when he joined Everton last summer, and it seems Ancelotti is keen on another reunion.
“They tell me that yes, James Rodríguez does have the option to return to Real Madrid,” Bonnet told Blog Deportivo as relayed on Blu Radio.
“The sports director of Real Madrid, Jose Angel Sanchez, does not want to, but on the other hand, the president wants him and the coach has requested for him.
“Obviously, those who arrive will have to reduce their salary, and James Rodriguez would be part of that reduction. The source says that James Rodriguez would have no cost for Real Madrid; he would recover an asset.
“Within the conditions of the move to Everton was that if he was asked for by any technical director he could return without cost.”
Incredible
We do not know what to make of this development, but it would not be any surprising if it is true.
Everton director of football Marcel Brands confirmed that the club signed the 29-year-old joined the club on a free [Goal] , and it seems there is more to this deal than meets the eye.
Ancelotti is a huge admirer of Rodriguez, working with him at Bayern Munich after their time together at Madrid.
The Colombian international joined Everton largely because of the Italian, and he could be following him out of the exit door.
Rodriguez ended 2020-21 with six goals and four assists in 23 Premier League games, and his creativity in the middle of the park came in handy at times.
He struggled with fitness and consistency, though, and much more was expected from him.
Despite his huge talents, parting ways with him this summer wouldn’t particularly hurt much.
