Liverpool fan in meltdown on talkSPORT as Everton close in on Rafa Benitez
Rafa Benitez’s reportedly imminent appointment at Everton as left one Liverpool fan absolutely furious.
On Wednesday night, talkSPORT reported that the former Liverpool boss is “on the brink of becoming the new manager of Everton”.
However, that has not gone down well with one Kopite, who called talkSPORT to share his anger with hosts Jason Cundy and Andy Goldstein.

As shown on talkSPORT’s Twitter account on Wednesday night, Steve, the Liverpool fan, said: “I’m absolutely disgusted. I think it’s a disgrace.
“What are we going to do when we play Everton at Anfield? Is he going to take his photo off the flags when he won the Champions League?
“I just think it’s a disgrace – what’s going on?
“Cundy’s saying he’s going to be a legend – no chance. It should never happen.
“Cundy, if you won the Champions League and then went to Tottenham, would they still fly your flag at Chelsea?”

Ex-Chelsea player Cundy replied by saying: “Steve, I think you’ve got to remember he’s no longer any part of Liverpool.
“They sacked him, they moved on. What’s he to do [with Liverpool]?”
Steve responded to say: “He shouldn’t go there, it’s a disgrace. It shouldn’t happen.
“We’re different to you London teams. We’re more passionate.”
Cundy disagreed and said: “No, you’re not Steve.”
Goldstein then interjected to hit out at Steve’s claim. He said: “This is rubbish. You’re not, Steve.
“No football fans are more passionate than another set of football fans. Everyone thinks they are, but they’re not.”
When Steve said Liverpool have the best fans in the world, Goldstein added: “That’s not a point. That is absolute nonsense.”
Steve started to get more irate and replied: “No, you always say this is absolute nonsense, it’s not nonsense.”
Anfield meltdown
We’ve been saying this all along, if Everton hire Benitez as their manager it will cause more anger on the red side of Stanley Park rather than our side.
Sure, it feels a bit weird to see the club pushing so hard to hire a Liverpool legend as their next manager, especially one who made a throwaway remark about Everton being a small club back when he was in charge at Anfield.
But that’s ancient history.
As Steve the Liverpool fan said, they wave flags with Benitez’s picture on it. They adore him.
Yet he could be managing an Everton team at Anfield in the Premier League next season.
That will hurt them. It will hurt them way more than it will for us to forgive Benitez for calling us a small club a long time ago.
If Benitez is hired (we say ‘if’ because the Irish Independent reports Nuno Espirito Santo could still come in), then we need to suck it up and realise that he’s a very good manager who will do a great job if he’s given the time and resources to do so.
