Alan Myers blasts ‘abusive’ anti-Benitez as Everton close in on ex-Liverpool boss
Sky Sports reporter Alan Myers has hit out at Everton fans who hung “abusive banners” at Goodison Park in protest against the reported move for Rafa Benitez.
The Mirror has reported that Farhad Moshiri is pushing to hire the 61-year-old ex-Liverpool boss and terms are already agreed in principle.
However, due to Benitez’s connections to the red side of Stanley Park, the move isn’t going down well with a lot of Evertonians.

Some hung offensive banners aimed at the Spaniard outside Goodison last night (Thursday) and Blues fan Myers isn’t impressed.
“By all means express your feelings but personal and abusive banners are out of order in my opinion, make your point but do it correctly,” said Myers via his personal Twitter account.
He added in another tweet: “If the message is to the board, why personally abuse a man going for a job?”
Totally out of order
If you’re mad at the news that Benitez is set to become our next manager then your anger should not be directed at him.
At the end of the day, he’s someone who lives in Merseyside who is out of work and wants to manage a top Premier League club.
Why should you be angry about him wanting the job? Be angry with Farhad Moshiri and the board for trying to hire him.
Everton fans have a better relationship with their board than most supporters of other teams but if you’re really unhappy about hiring Benitez – who has done nothing wrong – then make it clear in a different way.
But, ultimately, will Benitez want the job now?
There’s no doubt he or someone close to him will have seen those banners and he’s having second thoughts.
We just feel there are ways to go about this and those abusive messages are totally wrong and unneeded.
In other Everton news, Neville Southall has blasted the imminent Benitez appointment and wants this man in charge at Goodison instead.
