Everton set to announce multi-million Matheus Nunes transfer from Sporting CP

Everton have all but completed the signing of Matheus Nunes from Sporting CP with the midfielder’s transfer set to be announced, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese news outlet seems adamant that Nunes, 22, is set to become Everton’s first new signing of the summer despite the fact the Blues are yet to hire a manager.

It is understood the deal is “practically closed” with fees agreed with Sporting and personal terms agreed with the Brazilian ace.

A Bola reports Everton will pay £15.4million up front for Nunes with a further £1.7million in add-ons.

The Rio De Janeiro-born midfielder has also reportedly agreed a contract worth around £20,000-a-week, which is a massive upgrade on his £3,200-a-week deal in Lisbon.

Bold move by Marcel Brands

We’re a bit shocked that Brands has opted to push on with transfers even though the new Everton manager is yet to be decided.

While we understand that Brands is in charge of transfers at Goodison Park, we would have thought that he would at least consult the manager on who he’s bringing in.

We’ve said this plenty of times before but we feel as though one of the things holding Everton back is the lack of a teamwork behind the scenes.

Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri appear to be at odds over the direction they want the manager hunt to go in while Brands is now seemingly trying to sign new players without the green-light from a manager.

Ultimately, Brands could be signing a player who the next Blues boss doesn’t rate or doesn’t fit a certain system.

We’ll have to wait and see and A Bola could be wrong, Brands might have the deal in place for the next Toffees boss to agree on.
