Phil Kirkbride: Everton set to resolve manager situation early next week

Everton are set to appoint their new manager early next week, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Phil Kirkbride.

The Blues have been searching for Carlo Ancelotti’s successor since June 1, when the Italian tactician swapped Merseyside for Madrid to return to his old stomping ground at La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Countless names have since been linked with the vacant spot but no firm decision has yet been made.

However, speaking to Giula Bould on BBC Merseyside [19/06/21], reliable journalist Kirkbride, who is based in Liverpool, has suggested that the waiting may nearly be over for Everton supporters.

He said: “The information that was passed onto me last night and again this morning is that it’s likely to be early next week. That’s the hope, that there will be a conclusion to this.”

Finish line in sight

Well, we truly hope this pans out to be true as we have suffered for long enough.

Elite football clubs and those steeped in tradition and history are usually quick to resolve potentially messy situations that may unfold, but our board have been way too slow off the marks for our liking, and that has led us to where we are now – managerless after nearly three weeks of searching.

It’s just not good enough – this should have been sorted a long time ago.

It’s all very well taking the time to do the due diligence and ensure the person is appointed to a significant role at the club, but there has seemingly been no great masterplan behind it as we have lurched from one disaster to the next.

A number of managers have already come and gone, and we’re still none the wiser as to who the new boss will be.

Rafa Benitez seems to be the favourite at the moment, while Nuno Espirito Santo has been a leading contender for a while now and could still make a late bid for the role.

In other Everton news, the Blues’ search for a new manager is nearly over as Farhad Moshiri schedules a final meeting to rubberstamp a contract for this coach.
