Report: Tottenham keen on Everton-linked Nuno Espirito Santo

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in appointing former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who’s still in contention for the Everton managerial vacancy.

The last few weeks have been crazy in terms of managerial reports, and the latest has now seen Nuno linked with a move to the North London club.

After talks progressing well with Everton, it seemed like Nuno was set to sign, but he then ended up having advanced talks with Crystal Palace who were favourites to acquire his services.

What’s going on?

As things stand, the former Liverpool boss is the likeliest option to sit on the Goodison Park throne.

However, it remains to be seen whether they reconsider their position given the backlash from the fans. [Liverpool Echo Q&A]

Now, with Spurs in the race too, Farhad Moshiri, Bill Kenwright and Marcel Brands will have to decide what they want to do quickly or they might end up losing out on their previous number one target.

Nuno ticks some boxes but fails to tick others that Benitez does, making this a really complicated appointment.

If the board wants a Carlo Ancelotti-esque figure, one who’s managed the big teams and dealt with huge egos, then Benitez is their man.

The fans may be angry but they’ll eventually change their minds once things start getting back on track.

Nuno, on the other hand, can help with the side’s rebuild but will not guarantee silverware or the credentials to take the team to the next level – something the board have been looking for from their last few appointments.

This dilemma is probably what’s taking the club so long and we’ve been sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for some sort of clarity on this entire situation.
