Everton make Lucien Favre enquiry amid 63-year-old’s talks with Crystal Palace

Everton have sounded out ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre as they look to appoint Carlo Ancelotti’s successor, according to the Guardian.

The British news outlet claims Everton are believed to have “expressed an interest” in the 63-year-old, who has been out of work since he was sacked by the German giants in December 2020.

However, the Swiss manager, who would “prefer” to work in England amid interest from Turkish side Fenerbahce, has held “positive” talks with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace as they look to replace Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park, and he has been left “impressed” with their plans.

Positive

This is more like it.

With reports swirling that Rafa Benitez was set to be handed the Blues job, we were starting to become resigned to the fact that our board had made a complete mess of our manager search, and were about to appoint an ex-Liverpool manager.

However, that deal has not been done yet, with talkSPORT journalist Alex Crooks saying it has “gone quiet”.

Hopefully, Farhad Moshiri has listened to the overwhelming majority of fans who don’t want Benitez anywhere near the club.

Everton

Favre is someone that would excite us.

His honours list may not be stacked full – two Swiss Super League’s are his only league titles in the top-tier of a country, but he did win the Super Cup with Dortmund in 2019, and made them an exciting proposition to watch with an array of young talents.

Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland are a couple of stars that shone under his tutelage, and his work at previous clubs also paints a favourable light on him.

His teams at Nice and Borussia Monchengladbach were among the best to watch in their respective divisions, and he led both to Champions League qualification.

He’s proven, plays exciting football, and is available. We should be outmuscling Crystal Palace for his signature.
