Everton-linked Lucien Favre set to be appointed as Crystal Palace manager

Lucien Favre is close to being appointed as Crystal Palace manager with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur set to miss out, according to Leonardo Bertozzi.

The ESPN journalist responded to a tweet by renowned expert Fabrizo Romano, who said that “Lucien Favre is one step away from joining Crystal Palace as new manager”, as per a report by the Guardian’s Ed Aarons who claimed the 63-year-old is set to sign a three-year deal with the Eagles.

Bertozzi quoted-tweeted Romano and wrote on his personal Twitter profile: “Favre at Crystal Palace. Tottenham and Everton will have to find new managers.”

Writing on the wall

We were holding out faint hope that Favre could end up at Goodison Park, after the Guardian reported on Monday [21/06/21] that the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager had been sounded out by the Blues board.

But it appears almost certain that Favre will now join our Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, with one less side searching for a manager.

There are a multitude of reasons why we wanted Favre at Everton – he showed unstinting faith in young players like Jadon Sancho at Dortmund and plays exciting, front-foot football.

Meanwhile, we look set to appoint Rafa Benitez [Mirror] – a former Liverpool manager known for his dour tactics and moody demeanour with the media.

Everton

That’s despite backlash from angry fans, with Blues owner Farhad Moshiri seemingly set on bringing the Spaniard to Goodison Park.

He’s clearly not prepared to listen to supporters on this matter, and we are set to hurtle into yet another ill-advised managerial appointment.

That’s despite the availability of someone like Favre, who surely would have turned down Crystal Palace if we made him our number one target.

We could come to rue this mistake in a few months time when Palace are flying and we’re struggling.

In other Everton news, this huge change that Farhad Moshiri wants could be blocked due to the Premier League’s rules.
