Duncan Ferguson set to stay at Everton after Rafa Benitez gives blessing
Duncan Ferguson is set to stay on as Everton coach despite the impending arrival of Rafa Benitez as manager, according to Alex Crook.
The talkSPORT journalist delivered an update on Everton’s hunt for Carlo Ancelotti’s successor on Friday morning, writing on his personal Twiter profile that Benitez was “closer than ever” to being appointed.
Crooks later told talkSPORT [25/06/21]: “Key to this [appointment] is Benitez won’t bring the same level of entourage as Nuno Espirito Santo, he’s happy to work with some of the existing backroom team, including Duncan Ferguson, someone adored by Evertonians.”

Big Dunc on board to row back support
At least one good thing has emerged from this latest development – Ferguson looks to extend his stay at the club.
We’re not sure the Blues hierarchy deserve much credit for that as his departure would have caused even more anger within the fanbase, and probably led to a mutiny.
But least with Ferguson on board there will be some continuity and someone who knows the club inside out.
The towering Scot was a colossus during his two spells as a player at Goodison Park, striking fear into opposition defenders.
He later returned to the club as a youth-team coach before working his way up to the position of first-team coach, and he was also named as caretaker boss when Marco Silva was sacked in December 2019.

There was a further promotion for him when Ancelotti came to the club as he was made assistant manager to the Italian.
Ferguson looks to have taken a really integral role at the Blues, with star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin crediting the 49-year-old as a key influence in his development [Sky Sports].
It’s a relief to hear that a Blues fan favourite is set to stay with us, though it’s not clear what role Benitez will have lined up for him.
We don’t think it will be long before Ferguson is handed the caretaker reigns again as Benitez is shown the door.
It’s sad to say, but the arrival of the ex-Liverpool manager will be greeted with widespread derision and we can’t see this being a success.
In other Everton news, Don Hutchinson is dismayed at Benitez reports and urges the Blues to appoint Graham Potter.
