Lucien Favre performs late U-turn on Crystal Palace, Everton move still unlikely

Lucien Favre has rejected the chance to join Crystal Palace but a move to Everton is still very unlikely, according to the Guardian.

But, in a big surprise development on Thursday night, Favre has reportedly made a last-minute change of mind and rejected the three-year-contract on offer at Selhurst Park,

That appeared to have opened the door to Everton, who expressed an interest in Favre in “recent days”.

However, the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss is said to have decided to take an extended break from football, and is “not yet ready to return to the rigours of management”.

This seems rather strange, given Favre had spent so long in discussions with Palace.

He has been out of work since 13 December, when he was fired by the Borussia Dortmund board.

That means he has spent seven months out of management, a significant chunk of time given he turns 64 later this year.

Surely he still has a temptation to move back into a job in the near future? Otherwise, why would he have entered talks with Palace?

Of course, it’s a personal decision, and there may be other reasons at hand, but we think the Blues could persuade him to come to Goodison Park.

We’re a much bigger club than Palace, and the project on hand would surely tempt him.

Is it likely? Probably not, but we’d implore the board to make a move for Favre, someone that would be infinitely more popular than someone like Rafa Benitez.
