Phil Kirkbride shares Benitez-Everton update amid interest from Italian club

Rafa Benitez is reportedly still on course to take over the reins at Everton despite reports linking him with a move to Fiorentina.

According to The Liverpool Echo’s Phil Kirkbride, the former Liverpool boss remains the favourite to take over at the club as talks with him moving to Italy have been downplayed.

On Thursday, journalist Sara Meini said that Benitez was among the options being considered by Fiorentina, but the Spaniard is reportedly not keen on joining them this summer.

Not too fussed

This managerial saga has gone on for nearly a month and despite all the protests around Goodison Park, Benitez continues to remain the preferred man for the job.

It seemed initially that they may have worked and the board would consider someone else, but that’s not what has happened.

Despite interest from elsewhere, Benitez is still looking like he’s got his heart set on joining Everton.

It will be interesting to see the kind of reception he gets during our first home game next season if he’s actually given the job.

Everton

Never before, certainly not in recent times, has there been such backlash for an incoming manager.

As fans, we’ve got to look the other way at times, and while it will be hard, focusing on his managerial feats in this country and overseas could help calm some of the frustration.

He will, however, still have to prove himself from day one and if he manages to deliver the results, rope in quality players and build a good relationship with the fans, then it’s very likely that by the end of the season the Goodison Park faithful will be singing his praises.
