AS Roma open to sale of Everton-linked Chris Smalling – report
Everton have been handed a boost in their quest to sign Chris Smalling as AS Roma are willing to part ways with the player.
The English defender has sustained numerous injuries and has played very few minutes of Roma’s 2020/21 campaign due to which he is expected to leave this summer.
Per Corriere Dello Sport, General Manager Tiago Pinto is willing to sell the player if the right offer is tabled.

In recent weeks, Everton have emerged as suitors for the player. Gianluca Di Marzio reported that the Toffees had submitted an enquiry for a summer move and within a few hours an update surfaced from Il Sussidiario, that an offer had already been tabled for the former Manchester United defender.
We can do better
Per Man United’s official website, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer referred to the player as ‘incredible.’
However, he was the one who sanctioned his loan away from Old Trafford before eventually letting go of him permanently.
Smalling may have been a decent defender in the early days of his career in Manchester, but the last few years in the Premier League have been ones worth forgetting for the England international.

He had one good season after moving to Italy, but this past season injuries have held him back, and there’s no guarantee that a fit defender is going to turn up at Goodison Park.
We’ve got Ben Godfrey who’s had such an amazing season, and if none of our centre-backs are leaving, we’re not in desperate need of players in that department, and certainly not of Smalling’s ilk.
If there’s a deal to be made for a defender that strengthens our defence, then by all means it should be pursued.
However, we’ve got to stay far away from the Smalling transfer and focus our attention elsewhere.
